Susan Calman returns for another series of enthusiastic touring around her homeland. Last time round, “secret” wasn’t the first word that came to mind as she looked around tourist hotspots such as Edinburgh Castle and Loch Ness, but that’s not really the point. This is simply a glorious advert for Scotland’s natural and historical heritage, and there’s nothing wrong with that.
In this opening episode she’s buzzing about the Cairngorms. First stop is Balmoral, where she tries out the Gay Gordons with a man who once danced with Princess Anne. Nearby at Braemar she gets to toss a hammer with a giant whose own hammer is about the same size as she is. But not all her visits are so exalted; she cackles with glee while driving a 1914 steam wagon and discovers her own inner plasterer at Craigievar Castle.
